About this deal

Part of OM Digital’s prestigious”Pro” line, it joins other highly-capable, tough-built glass like the M. It wasn’t just in this test above – in every photo that I took with the lens, regardless of focusing distance and aperture, it was sharp from corner to corner. Wholly unsurprisingly, distortion is not a problem with this lens – but it’s not something we’d expect from such a long focal length.

Examining images closely also reveals an extremely impressive level of sharpness, with the best results seen if you can keep ISO relatively low. As for image stabilization, I kept it on most of the time, and the steadiness in the viewfinder was apparent. All of that said, while f/4 times 2 is f/8, the 90mm's f/5 at closest focusing distance gives f/10, which already is more limiting, however well the lens might compare wide open to the image quality of the 300mm. The popular Shading Effect previously only available in Monochrome Profile Control is now available in Color Profile Control in your PEN-F body, giving you the ability to create both black and white vignetting. You can easily switch the focus limiter over to Super Macro and get in close on frogs and flowers and insects and other critters to get great images right away. I was noting how a greater minimum focusing distance allows for more lighting flexibility so that the lens does not get in the way of a large diffuser.

Ceteris paribus applies everywhere where we are interested in an objective observation of attributes of some thing or phenomenon. With Test Tone, you can output a reference signal to the camera for a quick visual reference to help you set audio recording levels. And for us ambassadors that were trying out the lens in the colder months we just needed to get a little more creative and find some flowering trees, visit a magical butterfly conservancy, find some colorful frogs, etc.Handheld, it’s possible to achieve sharp macro images with enough depth at magnifications previously not possible. Putting a shorter FL 2:1 macro on FF and cropping will require a hi resolution sensor to match the focal length and IQ of this lens on a 20mp MFT sensor would require a 90mm 2:1 on a approx 80mp FF sensor cropped to 20mp. A 2x magnification ratio coupled with our Micro Four Thirds standard delivers a 4x 35mm equivalent magnification ratio. You might find if you have smaller Micro Four Thirds bodies it’s a little bit front heavy, so that’s perhaps worth considering.

The butterflies were a single image, while many of the frogs and flowers were focus stacked (>99% in-camera). I think this is significant, because even in the photos posted here it is clear that the depth of field at F3. Equipped with autofocus, a huge 2x magnification, and a long focal length of 90mm (180mm full-frame equivalent), there is no other lens quite like it for macro photography – whether for Micro Four Thirds or otherwise. Tim is curious, a keen creative, avid footballer and runner, and moderate flat white drinker who has lived in Kenya and believes we have much to enjoy and learn from each other. If the manual focus ring has hard stops at either end, does that mean it will jump to a specific focus distance based on its position at the time you pull back on the focus clutch?

even at 1x and it only increases at smaller magnifications (which, at least for me, is where I mostly use my macro lenses).

Micro Four Thirds system users will soon have a new 180mm equivalent, image-stabilized macro lens to consider for their arsenal. Ignore those who insist that the lens can’t do anything because of diffraction- users of fullframe systems will always go to that argument to put down micro 4/3 - but can they get these shots Olympus macro users get with this lens ? For photographers who need advanced photo editing options, Pixelmator Pro for macOS offers layer-based editing, machine learning-powered adjustment and selection tools, and features such as Denoise and Super Resolution. Fast continuous shooting, reliable autofocus and great battery life are just three of the most important factors.

Sorry about that, we took the product images after I'd already been using the lens for about a month. When thinking about using this new lens a few things come to mind regarding the focal length and the working distance. Family moments are precious and sometimes you want to capture that time spent with loved ones or friends in better quality than your phone can manage. More distance makes a practical difference, especially when photographing live subjects that move or get scared easily in the shadow of encroaching, towering hunks of metal.
