About this deal

I haven't charted out my visits for the summer term, but I'm sure there are several in the south) and thanks so much for being so fantastic!

This fast-paced story, full of excitement and mystery, left me desperate to become an umbra tamer myself. For fans of Amari and the Night Brothers, The Legend of Podkin One-Ear and Nevermoor, this is the first in the sensational Umbra Tales series, illustrated by Ana Latese. The story is gripping and exciting, without being too scary (I was a little worried it may be too much for some Y5 and Y6 pupils when I read the blurb about the 'Reaper King'). This book - which I'd describe as the relentless energy of Percy Jackson meets the world of Pokemon, all mixed together in a big bowl of starlight - is honestly superb.

None of them are a liability, but instead they form a great team who help each other out along the way.

Mia and the Lightcasters displays the hidden power and strength within and encourages readers to know and understand their true worth. This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). The story definitely has the feel of a rollercoaster video game, moving swiftly from one thrilling confrontation between good and evil, towards a shattering conclusion. I adored the twists and revelations, the danger and spine-tingling darkness with just the right intensity of horror as Mia and her friends are hunted across the Nightmare Plains, trying to keep one step ahead of a merciless pursuer …I’m a huge fan of a map in epic fantasy adventures as I love to refer to it as places are mentioned during my reading, giving me a real sense of place.

Probably not) - if this was a book for an older audience, this might be read as criticism of the societal expectations of women just handling everything (work, household, unpaid care-work, etc.Ross Welford introduces Time Travelling with a Tortoise, the sequel to Time Travelling with a Hamster, and a whole new time travel adventure! A surprise attack leaves Nubis in chaos, and Mia, Lucas, and TJ are forced to run away and leave their parents behind.

After graduating from Royal Holloway University with a Criminology and Sociology degree, Janelle moved back home to London and began writing middle grade fantasy. There were definitely points in the early chapters when I felt I was on the receiving end of an infodump. The book ticked off some of my personal pet peeves, too: 1st person narration in present tense - why?
