About this deal

The Half-Heard steps up to the plate, and I look forward to reading more about him in future books, and Tarvitz ended up being my favourite and most memorable, because of his honour and ability to stand up to those who seek to betray him.

The four steal a Thunderhawk and flee, guided by Keeler to the Eisenstein where Nathaniel Garro takes them aboard. In The First Heretic, we see why the Word Bearers fell together by seeing it through the eyes of Argel Tal, Lorgar, Cyrene, and many other people attached to them.Lucius succeeds in killing the rebel governor Vardus Praal and the Emperor's Children capture the palace. Cassar realizes the truth after they ride out the virus strike and firestorm and attacks Turnet, pleading with Aruken to help him, but his insistence that the Emperor is a god alienates Aruken who does not believe and chooses ambition over friendship, shooting Cassar dead. There are characters like Lucius whose antagonism has nothing to do with religion/faith, and there are characters like Erebus and Targhost whose antagonism is deeply rooted in it.

Qruze and Maggard fight but are evenly matched until Sindermann picks up Maggard's dropped pistol and shoots him in the side, allowing Qruze to finish him off. But when the fleeing Eisenstein is damaged by enemy fire, it becomes stranded in the warp - the realm of the Dark Powers. Horus commits the Sons of Horus under Serghar Targost and Luc Sedirae to the battle while sending Ezekyle Abaddon and Horus Aximand to confront their former Mournival brothers Loken and Torgaddon. The action-packed conclusion to the opening trilogy of The Horus Heresy and the start of the Warmaster’s march to Terra.Marked as traitors and held captive within the bowels of the Phalanx, the three legionaries were subjected to many long months of scrutiny and interrogation.

The ending is one of the bleakest ever and when you finish the novel you just can't wait to read the following ones. I look passed most of its lesser qualities and say it was a good course correction in what I feared was going to be a train wreck of a series after False Gods. Having recovered from his grievous injuries, Warmaster Horus leads the triumphant Imperial forces against the rebel world of Isstvan III.

This particular librarian i've converted with the vision of a senior librarian prior to the edict of Nikea being enforced, stripped of position and rank, confined to barracks on the phalanx but then re-instated when everything sideways with Horus's assault on Sol. The Mournival fights and with this, the last remnants of Horus’ conscious fall with the blades of Little Horus and Abaddon killing Torgaddon and thinking they killed Loken. I remember initially thinking when introduced to the remembrancers that they would surely pale in comparison to the astartes and primarchs in interest, but I have been happily proven wrong. My overall summary of this book is therefore: pedestrian writing explodes into life for the last third and leaves me still wanting to read the Horus Heresy.
