About this deal

The two newly created spaces then get refreshed with randomly drawn tiles and tokens from a stack of Habitat tiles on the far left of the draw line and Wildlife Tokens from the bag. Cascadia leaves no option for confusion in the components with very little symbology, clear, precise art and high-quality design.

Etsy’s 100% renewable electricity commitment includes the electricity used by the data centres that host Etsy. It is very good for 2 people and the only problem I see is that the art could be amazing and it is very mediocre. Randomly pick 4 Habitat Tiles and 4 Wildlife Tokens and pair them up in a row – this is your common pool. Picking a tile and animal combo that is right for you is a very juicy decision indeed, every single turn.

The BGG details we have so far allow players to include natural landmarks in their sprawling habitats, granting dynamic endgame scoring bonuses. uk on Instagram, popped round for a games day and taught me it, Cascadia was ripped from the shrink as soon as she left so we could play it again… and check that we had the extra few Kickstarter cards in the box!

Unlike games like Carcassonne and Isle of Skye, adjacent terrains don’t have to match, but you’ll get more points and bonuses at the end of the game if you are able to create large “corridors” of a single terrain type.

At the start of a game of Cascadia, you will randomly select a scoring card for each of the games five animals. While it will not be everyone’s cup of tea, if you like tile-laying and puzzles it is definitely worth your time. But in that case, it is the active player’s choice (aka yours in solo mode) as to whether those 3 are replaced or not.

Each habitat tile grants access to one, two or three specific animals, but you can only ever place one animal per tile, so your choices can be limited. I thought the game was close to perfect as it was, except for maybe a promo pack of additional animals to be released. You will not only score for each of the five animal cards but also for your largest area of each type. When I need a little game that allows me to ponder, look at nice components and stunning animal art, Cascadia is up there with the best of them. Ideally you can place habitat tiles to create matching terrain that reduces fragmentation and creates wildlife corridors, mostly because you score for the largest area of each type of habitat at game's end, with a bonus if your group is larger than each other player's. There’s also a Family variant Wildlife Scoring Card which replaces all 5 individual animal goals with a single objective which is great for younger or less experienced gamers. Drafting tiles and creating a landscape filled with wildlife which score points in a variety of ways is right up my street and since the game arrived a week ago we’ve played it twice a day since. Assisted by Beth Sobel’s gorgeous artwork, it requires its players to build a Pacific North-Western environment which, in a Wingspan-ish style, should provide the best habitats for its faunal populace.
